Raven,
The book you sent me, though it is enlightening as to Gorean philosophy, is a severe disappointment on the part of the author. Norman fails to capture or even semi accurately portray the female menatlity; not to mention that he fails to exhibit a smidge of understanding of the female slave point of view. The character of Elinor recieves a decent intro while she still is on Earth and loses all depth the moment she arrives on Gor. Thenceforth, she fails to develop as the reader would assume that she would once thrust upon a planet where she knows nothing and is subjected to the chain daily for months and months and months. Neither does she display her much claimed intelligence and cleverness. As the book continues on, Norman also fails to remember that he's writing a narrative, from Elinor's perspective, post the happenings, after she has become a slave. This unfortuaneatly happens much too often to over look. His habit of slipping from a past tense to a present tense and then to directly addressing the audience and then swiftly shifting back into a past tense narrative, all with in the same paragraph is somehting even my seventh grade english teacher would have not allowed!!!! His word choice and gramatical style (when he's not switching all the time) are elementary in nature. It is only by ignoring Norman's horrible use of the English language that one can gather a basic understanding of the philosophy behind the work. And even with that unstanding, you must remember that it is written by a male who lacks understanding of the female perspective, thus rendering him incapable of accuratly portraying the existance of the female slave.
My vote, hire an editor before it goes to print.

Other than that I liked it. Couldn't put it down.
It's almost four am. I'm going to sleep. Hope all is well there.

Ps. Yes, the book almost hit the wall more than once, mostly because of the grammatical stuff but also because the character of Elinor is an idiot.

Upon further consideration, I can see the alluring nature of the society of Gor. Males who are truely male. Adept at those tasks considered to be male, including pure physical strength and wisdom to take proper care of their women, their slaves. The ablitity to battle and the pure stength it takes for that battling isn't something that Earth males developed. Exuding masculinity and having a gaggle of females to serve his every need is definatly an Earth man's dream. It is not unreasonable to see that there are those males who have read these books and emulate them in parts.

As far as the female aspects of this world go, I cannot accurately comment because the character of elinor didn't give a truely detailed example of the mental process behind submission. The exampled submission was emotional and passionate and as an earth girl, emotions and passions run out.

My thoughts in the morning...
I'm off to boynton... hope today is good for you.

I stumbled upon a chat room a few monhs ago and the people inside were into the Gor Culture. I stayed for a while, but they werent my cup of tea so to speak. That whole chat room society thing weirded me out a bit

I did a little research on it and my conclusion was that it seemed interesting but odd at the same time.

What was the namw of the book, isnt their like a whole set of "Bible-like" books about Gor?

oh and I

I got some tea today smile
