Brand New vs. Taking Back Sunday

Has anyone noticed that there's some kind of lyrical feud going on between these two bands? Well apparently it's because John (from Taking Back Sunday) slept with Jesse's (from Brand New) girlfriend back when they were in high school. Brand New's debut album was written long before TBS's debut, so the lyrics undoubtedly belong to Jesse. After the incident, Jesse wrote Seventy Times 7 as a stab at John. It includes the lyrics:

"And is that what you call tact? You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back. So let's end this call, and end this conversation."

These same lyrics appear in TBS's song There's no 'I' in Team, which was written as a stab back at Jesse. If you are a fan of either of these bands, this may be old news, or something that you've just never noticed if you haven't read the lyrics to both songs. Looking closely at the lyrics to There's no 'I' in Team you can pick out more lyrics referring to Brand New's songs:

"have another drink and drive yourself home / I hope there's ice on all the roads / and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt / and again when your head goes through the windshield"
(ALL taken from Seventy Times 7)

Hmm... but it goes deeper than just these two songs:
The song title Okay I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't could be another response to the line "Don't believe me when I tell you / it's just what anyone would do" from There's no 'I' in Team. Also, in the same song by TBS, they have a line about a twenty dollar bill, which is a subtle reference to Brand New's song Mix Tape.
More lyrical similarities are found in BN's Soco Amaretto Lime and TBS's ...Slowdance on the Inside:
"Passed out on the overpass / Sunday best and broken glass / Broken down from the bikes and bars..." (Soco Amaretto Lime)
"Passed out in our school clothes so we'd wake up in our Sunday's best"

Yes I'm bored and have too much time on my hands to be analyzing these two bands to such an extent, but read the lyrics and judge for yourself. I like both bands but if one band were to come out on top, I would have to pick Brand New.
