So for those of you who read parenting books of any kind or baby magazines you should know that you are supposed to start weaning your kids off of the bottle or breast around 12 months.
Well, Calvin is turning 2 this month and he still has his bottle at night and sometimes for nap. Mostly as a sleep aid. (Mostly because I am in such a hurry to get an hour or two rest before I have to go to bed and start another day...which is bullshit because when he falls asleep I have to clean the fucking messes he and his dad made in the house. Anyway.) So he's still on the bottle and he fucking depends on it. Tonight was the first night we.. (but I really mean "I") started the weaning process. I would compare it to the first day a smoker gives up cigarettes or a crackhead gives up crack.
Before putting Calvin in bed for the night we read a book aptly titled, "Bye Bye Bottle." Then while changing him into his pajamas I explained how he is getting to be a big boy and we will now drink milk from a cup and not a teta (Tett-Ah.."bottle".) So he did ask for a teta whining a little and I gave it to him full of warm water. He made the ugliest face and began to whine at me more. I told him he could drink all the water he wanted from his teta but milk will be out of a cup. He understood because he grumbled and I walked him to bed. His dad hugged and kissed him, and I tucked him in too. It was 8:30 sharp.
Not 5 minutes later he was in the living room asking for milk. I explained...AGAIN and sent him back to bed. He got up about 6 more times. Somewhere in the middle I had a full teta thrown at me. The last time resulted in a very irritated Rodney putting him in bed and threatening a spank if he did not close his eyes and go to sleep. This was at about 11:07pm. He's finally asleep now at 11:23pm and his bottle is still full of water.
I can tell he absolutely hates the gesture of me putting plain water in his milk bottle. He's gone to sleep without a teta many times but tonight he wanted one, and it had water in it. I think we pissed him off more than anything. He hated the water. But I think if he can learn that big boys drink out of cups and babies drink out of a bottle he'll want to use the cup for everything. He's very good at it. I'm trying to use the timing to my advantage because he is sick with a sore throat and runny nose.. so he can't nurse a teta anyway. His throat is too sore and he can't breathe out of his nose when lying down because of his boogers.
I hope this doesn't take longer than a week.
My Xanax script is straight up about to run out on me again. lol

Evelyn is now 20 monthst and we are gonna do it one last time, I think she may give up easier as we give her one at night time just so we can cuddle her, at this point the bottle at night is more for us than her ....
Good luck.
