I am sittin on my bed vpned into beaverton copying the contents of a dying disk to a spare disk. The servers was built 5-6 years ago and the apps werent brokent so they never upgraded it. Now they are moving to hong kong to be on "partitioned" server of a top of the line IBM supercomputer. It is taking months to get the code ported to a modern version of oracle
In the mean time the old beast is failing. As I look at gimping the machine along untill next month when it current life finally moves on I find so many parallels. So much of the last 5 years deployed and unmaintained, capable yet breaking down. Holding out untill the job is done and i can be thrown into the scrap heap.
