As they stood rapt in each other, feeling the gentle caress of limbs and thoughts, they swayed in time to some unheard music that only they could feel. With her head pressed against his chest he thought, so this is what it feels like to not want to leave. He battled himself as they moved. He fought the unimaginable urge to stay and sway, all the while resisting the need to get home to sleep.
Slowly it became apparent that the movement seemed to mimic his own tumultuous thoughts. When they swayed to one side he noticed they were closer to the door, his truck, and ultimately home. Moving the other way brought them closer to the hallway and her bedroom.
Strictly clothes on, he thought. It's been a while since I spent an innocent night with someone.
Occasionally they made eye contact. Green was his favorite color. How could he sleep with such beauty in the bed next to him? He would want to sway all night. No. It was time to head out into the lonely moonlit darkness.
Goodbyes said and soft kisses given, he walked down the path to his vehicle. He could feel her gaze as she stood watching him go. He could tell she didn't want to close the door any more than he wanted to keep walking. What would it be like to turn around and run back to her to sway some more?
He climbed into his truck, started the engine, and rode home. What felt like a lifetime had only lasted five minutes, but the smile didn't leave his face until he arrived at work the next morning.
