I like the gates. I wish I could go visit NYC right now. It got people talking, and walking, and questioning, and curious again. Was it waste? By definition, all art is a waste. It's nonfunctional. This piece was a larger bit of nonfunctionality than some. Countries waste money. Corporations waste money. Heck, even poor people waste money.

Does the photograph of the graphitti ("Art?") now make the gates ironic? So now it has meaning? So now it's art? Boring art doesn't do this. So yes, hate it. Love it. How cool is that?
calvinbrookfield:
Nothing says, "dear god, please stop now" like high school poetry. puke

I think a lot of people get overly obsessive about analyzing art. It is what it is, and either you approach it for what it is, or not. That's my thought.

Note to Woman buying vibrator at Toys in Babeland on Rivington:
Following up your request for C batteries with a loud "they're for my shower radio" isn't fooling anyone.

The inevitable disappointment wasn't particularly surprising this time 'round.
Still, I thought we'd, at least, give it a go.

Perhaps it's because we are afraid of ruining what we've come to understand as a constant: this comfortable, reliable kinship, that we should throw caution to the wind. If we didn't care so much, it wouldn't be worth it.

calvinbrookfield:
Ah yes. Released in New York and LA, but everyone else has to wait until December 25th. So it goes. I'm looking forward to the movie.

Hipsters? I don't know if we have those in Dallas. surreal

Only one week until Steve Zissou.

biggrin
calvinbrookfield:
You mean, the show with Goggins? smile No, haven't seen The Shield yet, but I'm putting it on my DVR. I agree, Arrested Development is hilarious. One of my favorite shows next to Scrubs.

Also, looking forward to the Steve Zissou. Wes Anderson. Love him.

As of 12:04pm yesterday I'm officially an uncle.

I have an uncle badge and everything. Now off to do some official uncle business (i.e. buy all the stuff for my niece that I told everyone to stop buying).

By the way... were you aware that this fucker is now a member?
doctashock:
I actually talked to Val briefly on the phone this afternoon. I often wonder about my rep around those parts considering my exile and all.

At any rate that fucker is one John Thursby.

I also am planning a trip to NYC in February to interview for the DGA's Assistant Director's training program. Maybe we'll get to hang out or something.
