Recent films I have enjoyed and recommend to all:

Survive Style 5 Plus

Survive Style 5 Plus is campy, offers ample helpings of cliche, and feels a bit like Guy Ritchie made a cosplay flick.

That said, it is also a very human film. Through zen-like moments of awareness and absent revelations, the characters discover that being a real person has little to do with existing within a real person's body. This is the ultimate anti-objectification film.

Tears of the Black Tiger

This is a Thai version of the classic 1950s western. The film is campy as all-get-out, but the actors never drop their sincerity, allowing the viewer to remain invested in them throughout the film. The action is exciting, and it incudes a touch of humor to keep the mood light. The characters are well-thought-out and wonderfully acted. This is the sort of film I wish Hollywood was making right now.

Paths of Glory

I don't hear this one referenced as often as some of Kubrick's other films, but that doesn't mean it isn't one of his best. It may seem a bit dated, or even cliche, in its approach towards exposing the horror and inhumanity of war, but that hardly matters, as the film is so powerful and effective that you can't help but cry out in protest of the characters' rotton treatment by the insensitive (and sometimes downright evil) officers. This one's a tad slow, but very, very worth it.
