So I made it. New Zealand was spectacular. The last weekend consisted of going to Big Day Out in Auckland where we saw:
THE MARS FUCKING VOLTA
The White Stripes
Franz Ferdinand
Die! Die! Die!
The Living End
Henry Rollins (spoken word)
Sleater-Kinney

...and many more. It was almost as spectacular as the sunburn I received. Then we flew back to Wellington for X-Air, this huge, free, all-day spectacle of FMX and BMX and inline skating and skateboarding and people riding anything with wheels off of a huge ramp into the water and so forth. It was pretty god damn rocking. Now I'm in Japan and missing the summer and the delicious cheese and the arcades and 2 of my closest friends. But the adventure is only beginning and I will be thrilled about it if it's the last thing I do.

Meanwhile, my body is covered in New Zealand bruises, some from scrambling around climbing walls and trees and so forth but mostly from my friends and I getting drunk and punching the crap out of each other. Particularly the day Andy and I went to X-Air and got ripped and came back but were locked out because Bailey had his room key so we just sat out front on the street drinking whiskey and taking turns punching each other hard in the arm while sitting down. If you've never tried to punch someone hard in the arm while sitting down, you should. It's hilarious. Especially when you miss.

Anyway, I'm going to be sad as these bruises fade. Largely for sentimental value of what was one of the kickassest week and a halfs of my life (shut up, that made sense), but not exclusively. For those of you who don't know, I greatly enjoy getting knocked around. And I don't foresee making any friends in the next four months who are up for getting wasted and punching the shit out of me just for kicks. Except for maybe creepy Japanese businessmen. And I don't really think I want to go there. Although I could probably make some extra money, which would be nice...maybe I can just stand on the street with a sign that says "Punch the gaijin! Y200!"

Anyway I got both the classes I wanted, so that's just lovely. I find out this afternoon what level of Japanese class I'm in. Classes start Monday. Day trip to Kyoto this afternoon at 2pm with the one quasi-friend I've made so far. Yesterday was my insane bank adventure that involved, at one point, me getting lost and wandering around this abandoned bridge/path thing over a sad and trickling river for about an hour. Today I'm trying to go to the post office. What madness this will bring only time can tell.

PS- I have many pictures but my computer is internet-less, so until I get the time/energy/inclination to burn them to CD and bring them to the computer lab or get my computer up and running (even less likely given that it overheats approx. every 15 seconds) you will read every word of my picture-less drivel. And you will love it.
