This is not a Japan story. Rather, it is a traffic story straight from traffic hell (Boston).
Today was the second time this month that I came to a traffic circle (rotary) and found everything stopped because of a funeral procession. The funeral traffic, in addition, goes very slow. So we wait, and lots of cars are waiting, most not knowing why everything is stopped...

There's a gigantic graveyard and three churches on the way to my school, and the only time I'm ever late for work is when I get stuck behind a funeral procession. Unfortunately, it was happening so often that I now have to leave ten minutes early just in case.
The Belly of the Buddha
Two Japanese students were showing some of the group around Kyoto. After a harrowing day of temples and city busses, half of the group, vocally lead by a cute but somewhat annoying undergraduate, decided to go to the 100 Yen store to buy cheap Japanese crap. Not that I don't like cheap Japanese crap or anything, but I preferred going...

Apparently packing light is suspicious to customs officers.
My flight on the way to Japan arrived about a half hour after the flight of most of the participants. So, in order not to miss the bus to the hotel, I knew I had to haul ass through customs and immigration. (They like to leave on time. I would have been left behind.) I decided that...

Very true. I was having trouble finding the Consumer Reports "Gang" issue, though. Let's just hope I made the right choice. Or the right choice was made for me, more accurately.

yeah custom officials don't like me either. it might have someting to do with the fact that i'm big and suspicious looking
Off I go to Japan.

Shitdamn, I'm so jealous. I worked at a Japanese antique gallery for three years when I was a teenager, but I've never been able to actually visit the country.

This month has been dreary yet so incredibly filled with work that I've hardly had time to catch my breath. Each week seems to whack me over the head anew - this pending week appears to be no exception.
And I still don't know where I'll be next year. The shack in the middle of nowhere New Mexico is looking more and more appealing as...

February is a very boring month. March will be better, for the following reasons:
1. Tattoo appt. - more feet work!
2. Japan!
3. Also going to Vancouver
yay march! hurry up

I don't want you to think that I'm prejudiced against strawberries, or anything like that. I think everybody should be free to choose a strawberry or non-strawberry lifestyle, according to their personal orientation. Some of my best friends like strawberries. But upon deep, intensive introspection, I really don't think I'm a strawberry kind of guy.
So I guess I'll have to shell out another $2.50 for another tube of chapstick...

The most exciting thing in my life lately is that I'm learning how to knit. The knitting itself is going quite well. The problem is that I don't think knitting alone provides enough meaning to constitute adequate existential sustenance.
velocity:
It DOESN'T??!?
Well, shit. Time to go rethink my life.

i don't know...i always find myself meditating when i knit.
In thoroughly moronic fashion, I left my car window open an inch last Thursday (when it was 50+ degrees out), and then Sunday it snowed over a foot, and my driver's seat got filled up with snow. We got the snow out, but I still fear freezing my ass to the seat.

Well, I just loaded everything on it yesterday, and it already seems to be getting way more attention than when I listed on ebay. It's also a much easier site to use than ebay, from a seller's viewpoint, and anything you list stays up for six months, instead of just seven days.
You may want to put stuff up quickly though, this weekend they're having some sort of special "no listing fees" weekend. If you do sell some stuff, give me a link. I'd love to see it.
