I had never heard of SG until my wonderful girlfriend told me about it. We’re doing the long distance thing- I’m from Vancouver & she’s from New York. We met on the last day of my trip there and had a great first date (I love telling this story and frankly it deserves it’s on post so I’ll keep the details til then). We haven’t been able to see each other since March due to the pandemic and to say that I miss her would be an absolute understatement. For the most part, we’ve been doing great considering everything but hearing the announcement of the most recent border closure extension had me feeling defeated. As much as I tried not to show it, fronting isn’t my strong suit & my girlfriend is intuitive so she was quick to notice the change in my morale.

A little backstory- my girlfriend has been on this site for over 10 years and periodically has shared a blog entry with me. I love hearing/reading her writing. She’s so talented and it makes me feel like each one I read let’s me get to know her a little better. I know this is her diary, her safe space - so it came as a surprise when she brought up me joining the site. And an even bigger surprise when one morning she asked me to check my email & she had gotten me an annual membership. It was one thing to hear her say that I should join and check it out but another to take the initiative. It made me feel like I wasn’t being as intrusive, maybe & that she really did want to grant me access to this part of her life.

I know she’s made some friends here that are very special to her. And I’m grateful that wants to share this with me. The only thing she requested was that I read everything with an open mind. Inevitably, I will continue to read about her exes & past relationships. Hardships & triumphs. Highs & lows. Wins & losses. The more I read, the better I feel I understand her past. And like a domino effect, I think a deeper understanding of her past will help towards a greater understanding of the person she is today. As soon as I’m done creeping my gf’s blogs and posts of course, I plan on exploring the diverse groups. I’ve already scrolled months’ worth of cute doggie pictures, so it’s already begun. Wish me luck 🤞🏾
