AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

and such

I dunno, today wasn't all that bad. Cog-Sci was ok. Laura and I's daily quest to find Zach at lunch proved successful today and that's always heartening. Zach = good people. Oh, which reminds me, the Beware of Fans sign was from him. Anyhoo, the rest of the early afternoon was a mix of fun and reading for classes. The came SLFK, which certainly raised my heartrate.

SLFK, the Rant: Ok, so Storytelling and Healing is actually a better class then I had given it credit for. I wouldn't call it...intellectual, or academic. But it's whole race-relations thing has its merits. The downside at this point seems to be in the professors. John's decently cool. I think I might actually enjoy taking a class from him, and his SLFK segments at least make sense. Rachel = out of her mind. Anyway, that's not really the point. The entire year we always seem to get a good oppertunity to have a big discussion dealy we instead talk about whether or not people will be offended or not if we talk about it. I mentioned that today in a sharply witty way during a class discussion and it seems most people found what I said both correct and ammusing. I'm not so sure the teachers did. I suppose we'll see. Maybe I'll check my spot on their e-folio thing tonight to see if they've left me 'comments'.

After SLFK was more reading and work and Philosophy paper, happily alternating with time with Laura, which always makes the day better. Then I donned my trenchcoat and hat and made my way over to Philosophy Circle. Technically, I should have gone to karate today, but the topic this week was the Meaning of Life. How could I resist? It was certainly a good debate, and I was active which pleased me mightily.

Phil Circle: Janie presented that life has no meaning. Jesse presented that it did. I was really hoping his presentation wouldn't be, "Life has meaning because we have cells and they tell us to pass them on to proginy." It was. ARGH! I'm not saying that's not a valid argument, but when discussing the Meaning of Life it seems like there should at some point be an argument for something more 'Big Picture' or spiritual or whatever then what was effectively Nihilism vs Science. What it ended up breaking down into was Jesse and the really loud guy fighting me and this new french girl about whether or not Reason could possibly under any circumstances have any other purpose than to allow us to figure out how to pass on our genetics and stay alive. I was arguing that Reason simply allows us to determine how to achieve goals and that it is certainly feasible for someone to have an overriding goal greater than to continue the species. But Jesse and loud guy are quite naturalist and argued that no, continued existance and such is greater than all. It was very frustrated. Oh well, such is the way of Phil Circle. ...and I suppose such is the way of Jesse and I, in that we're great friends and have entirely different views on everything imaginable. Speaking of which, I'm not raising the difficulties for fast-casting in mage. I won't do it! Anyhoo.

More than the debate, Phil Circle made me a bit sad because I feel like I'm not so much a part of friends lives anymore. I'm probably exagerating a wee bit, but I definitely don't see Jared anymore, and I see Zach and Jesse less than I have in seasons past. I suppose it doesn't bother me overly much, but I miss them all. On that note, I need to go finish my Phil paper.

Questions!
1) Is abortion morally problematic?
2) Is there a meaning to life?
3) Can Reason have any valid usage other than to impliment biological imperatives?
4) Can Shakti come over on Friday? (I really hope so)
