In its infinite wisdom, Temple University is open tomorrow.

A little trivial tidbit for y'all: in the past 30 years, TU has closed about 5 times because of snow. That's right, FIVE TIMES.

Now, you might be saying to yourself, "Big deal, you bastards should leave your dorm rooms and get to class!"

But aye, there's the rub Temple University is more than 75% commuter students and has a student body of over 30,000.

And now you might say, "Eh, what's the big deal. What's the big shit about a 15 minute subway ride."

If it were only that easy. It takes me (on a GOOD day, i.e. minus the blizzard) and hour and a half to get to Temple. Because that's the way public transportation works.

Because for more than 50 years, the white, middle-class of Northeast Philadelphia has been blocking an extention of the subway to reach to this god forsaken section of the city. Why? Because that would allow blacks and latinos easy access to our neighborhood.

Isn't it bad enough that they go to our schools? Do they have to come to our neighborhood as well?

Think I'm talking out of my ass? Philadelphia is one of the ten most segregated cities in the country. The ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY!

"Why is this?" you may ask. That's simple. Any time the threat of more than a miniscule number of any minority group has the audacity to think they can move into one of our neighborhoods, we make sure they don't think twice about it.

An example:

Recently, Mayor John Street announced that the long-abandoned Byberry [Mental] Hospital in the Somerton section of our fair city, was one of the sites that would be bought, destroyed and rebuilt by the city into low-income housing.

Guess what! That's not going to happen. The second he announced it, you better believe everyone in the neighborhood made a big stink about it:

"What will people say about our neighborhood?"

"It will drive down property costs!"

Your right. An abandoned hospital where your teenage children can throw keg parties and shoot dope is much more appealing than low-income housing.

It's not blacks that drive down property value. It's the biggoted, middle-class, Christian white folk who flee to the suburbs anytime someone with brown skin moves into the neighborhood. Well, either that, or we spray paint a nice, big swastika on those race-mixing motherfuckers' house.
morgan:
Jesus, i didn't even know that people still EXISTED who actually SAY things like "it drives down property values"

Get me up there. I'll kick all their asses for you.
