a collegue of mine from the restaurant i just finished up at was killed yesterday after falling from 9 floors up from his las vegas hotel room. i have a history of not getting along with some folks from the FOH, but this guy was not one of them. a real good guy. did his job well and wth pride. always respected the guys in the kitchen. its hard to know that he had time to realize what was happening before his life ended. deaths like that are reserved for bad guys in movies, not good hard working men. from what i understand he was acting out a story, being told to the owner of Avondale who was with him. i don't know if they had been drinking or there was a miscalculation, or if jim tripped and went over the balcony. all i know is that its not the way someone who did so much for his masters, friends, and the community of Vail should have gone out. everyone i know is in shock. no one really knows what to feel right now. i'd like to say he's in a better place, but that is reserved for those who were ill, not those in their prime. i wish i could be there to help my friends mourn and to celebrate his life.
