Well, it was my little sister's graduation from the University of Kansas this past Friday, where she graduated with her BA in something that has to do with criminal justice and counseling. I am not 100% sure what she is going to do, but apparently she got accepted into graduate school for domestic abuse counseling and hopes to be done with that in a year's time. I was invited on Thursday, as an afterthought, to attend and I brought my camera. I think I pissed a few people off without meaning too...really. When I was asked what I am up to these days, I talked about me being about 20 weeks away from finishing my MFA in Photography, and a few people acted like I was trying to be stuck up. Even my ex-step grandmother was a little off putting after she acknowledged how "pristine" SCAD is and how that was "nice" that I have been able to attend. (She lives in Pooler, which is a suburb of Savannah and has heard and seen what the school has become)
I think what it is that no one ever had high hopes for me and thought that I would go no where, especially since I am now celebrating my 20th anniversary of my first Vans Warped Tour (yes, I went to my first one in 1997, at Burcham Park, in Lawrence, KS when the tour was only 3 years old) and I really never left my punk roots since then. I had been listening to punk (which is the best music in the world) for about a year or two before then (hard to believe that I was like a 12/13 year old punker...kinda cute to think about) but yeah, I graduated with my BA from a very fine school in the Midwest, a school that was once known as the Ivy League School of the MidWest, and now I am about to graduate from one of the best fine arts schools in the US, and I did it by myself, without any pats on the backs, and for the most part (apparently) without a lot of my family even knowing.
I don't know. I guess that I am just upset that the family never really give a crap about what me or what I do but my brother and sister, they always get this fanfare and so on...I guess maybe I just need to get over it and stop expecting shit to change since it hasn't yet, why would I expect it to now?
