I'm a statistic--- A victim to Fraud!
So today was pretty much the run of the mill shit day (regular bitching from coworkers, impossible clients, not enough time in the world.) To make matters worse, I just became a statistic!
I received an email from a fraud protection agency to address "unusual activity" on my accounts. It was legit, they provided their corporation name, # and gave me a reference #. I spoke to them and confirmed a couple of unwarranted purchases. They reccommended that I contact my bank immediately.
When I called the bank, they did the usual (ask for account#, confirm address, phone,etc). They then asked at what time I received my email (the exact date and time). My bank DID confirm that it REALLY was a fraud protection agency that works with them. (*PLEASE NOTE THAT MY BANK DOES NOT FUCK AROUND. IT'S A MILITARY BANK. THEY GO TO THE FULLEST EXTEND TO PROTECT THE MEMBERS).
Apparently some asshole, had already made purchase#1 in JAPAN?! WTF????! He bought something for $130.00.. Since they noticed that the card would more than likely be "in progress", they immediately set to reject the transactions and froze my account immediately. They instructed me to shred all my cards and that i'll be sent replacements asap (sometime next week). If it posts that those transactions withstand, they will refund me all money in cash if it stands after a couple of days.
SO, what does this fucking mean for me??! Means, no access to my account (NADA! with the frozen hold, it could be up to 72hrs if necessary) I can't even go into the bank to withdraw money even though it's actually me! And this also means, that checks written (like rent, or Car payment, etc.) Might bounce. I've asked them about it and they said with the hold it will be deferred. AND lastly, this means Im temporary screwed. NO GOING OUT AND NO DRIVING ANYWHERE (GAS PRICES!!!)
So this will be interesting. No, I'm not looking for sympathy or advice. I'm just venting. Thank you all for reading/listening!
