I hate my family.

More specifically, my dad's side of the family.

My mom, as a Christmas present to each one of my dad's sisters and brother, had a 35-generation family tree printed. The research she's been doing to make these family trees has taken years, with each source referenced for all of the thousands and thousands of people she has in her Family Tree program database.

So, as a gift to each family on that side of my family, she's had these books printed with 35 generations, connecting us to English Royalty, Winston Churchill, Thomas Jefferson, and John Steinback (mostly indirectly, but still interesting). She's putting the family tree sheets in plastic page holders, and putting each one into a giant leatherbound 3-ring binder.

So why do I hate my family? Because I know none of them will give a shit about it.

I really can just see the looks on their faces when they open up the books. I can see each individual member of my family's specific reactions. None of them will give a shit. It'll be a "novelty", it'll be an, "oh, interesting" -> collect dust on coffee table (if it's even that lucky).

I'm sure most of my spoiled brat cousins, regardless of age, will even look at the fucking thing. It's not expensive (to them), and it's not sports-related or something you can show off or something that you can take out to the lake or the dunes and run around on, so it won't mean shit to them.

The worst part: My mom knows most of them won't give a shit about it. She flat out told me she realizes it. But she's doing it anyways, because she figures that hopefully, at some point, someone in our family will realize the significance of all the work she's done and will appreciate it, even years down the road. I know my grandpa might be the exception, and will probably take some time to pour over my mom's research when he has a chance, but I'm not sure if I see that happening with anyone else. It's just not something their materialistic psuedo-Christian richbitch brains will ever come to appreciate, despite the kind of work my mom has obviously put into the whole thing.

So Merry Christmas to my mom for being the only one in my family who isn't going to blow money on stupid shit that'll be forgotten by next year (she is blowing money - $40-$50 a piece for these books... but it's not stupid shit). To everyone else in my family: fuck off. Never liked you much anyways.

I hope your family does appreciate there gifts your mom has done. If not next year give them a box of coal. On the bright side at least you and your mom know more about your family.
