I think my probalem is I tend to stick to what I know, and it comforts me to do so.

For example, I know if I sit in my room, I will always be alone. It's better to know for certain that I'll always be alone, and thus sit in my room, than to go out and face the unknown.

maybe I could get lucky, or maybe I'd find out just how hideous and repulsive women really think I am. I wouldn't know until I tried, and I prefer to know ahead of time.

because it's comforting.

You should go out. You should try. There's no gain unless you try.

I hear ya buddy. Though I have more experiance with the opposite sex it is still not an easy thing for me to go out and pursue what I am interested in. There is a girl that works at the coffee place me and my friends hit up and i have considered asking her out, hell my ex has even suggested I go for it. I just can't figure out how to ask her out... So far the bulk of my relationships have made it very clear that they wanted to hook up with me, at least the ones that lasted any length of time did.

So here is what you need to do. Don't sit in your room all the time, go out and interact with the world. Even if it is doing that alone. Go to a museum or grab a book and go read at a coffee place, do it regularly.
