thats just an excuse.. if someone liked someone else they would make it a point to take time out of thier day to let you know they like you. plain and simple. granted some ppl keep to thier selves due to humiliation and/or rejection, but if they found out the other person had intrest in them. they usually open up and let thier feelings out.
