Hey all,
New blog. I am now in the southern Thai town of Hat Yai, on my way back to Australia. I will be here for a few days. It is exciting. The town is just north of the 'deep south' of Thailand, where Muslim separatists are shooting people and exploding bombs to gain independence. I am also staying at a hotel which now has...

Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year to you and yours.
Inspired by my SG friend Collide, who is wonderfully talented (and very pretty), and who posted some striking pics of Rome, I am posting here some pics of Thailand. I hope they are a little bit striking.
As with Collide, I have tried to avoid the 'postcard' look and go for a little more grit and a little more unusual. Comments welcome. Of course, remember,...

Aww you remembered the heart! Nice, that put a huge smile on my face
I am still jealous you are in my favorite country. Please think of me and have a few for me.

hehe lol
Sitting in a 'Coffee World', Pattaya, listening to the corporate approved musak and enjoying a good coffee. My second root canal 'procedure' has been completed, not quiet as much discomfort as the first, but not fun. I dislike the claustrophobia, my mouth filled with tools and hands, my eyes covered to protect against the glare from the dental lights above, and several people standing around...

Except for one or two bumps in the road, my internet experiences, relationship-wise have been mostly positive. I love my friends on SG as much, or more, than my everyday friends. Some of the ones on SG have in fact become everyday friends.
The fact that I met Kathy on FetLife is another testimonial for internet social networking.

I appreciate your pragmatic sentiments. The things you say are quite valid in the majority of cases.
The advantage I have in all this is that I experienced the gift of love over a 32 year period with Annette. To compare this relationship with that would be foolish. My needs and desires, as well as my priorities in life have changed dramatically.
I have different reasons for entering into this union. Love needs to be a component for sure, even though most of the other factors may be different.

Well, one thing done, root canal part one is over. An hour plus in the chair, lots of prodding and pocking, and finish. I am not an easy patient, I like to know what is going on, and ask questions, not easy when your mouth is full of tubes and some plastic gadget which stops saliva from entering the tooth.

I assume you're "not a fan" of Hasselhoff as opposed to whoever I actually am. For a minute there I almost felt insulted until I remembered that you don't actually know who I am.
As for the death penalty thing...
Governments shouldn't kill their own citizens---they should protect them. And what happens when the protectors violate that trust? I believe they should be held to a stricter standard. In my mind this applies to anyone who carries a weapon in an official capacity and/or who possesses certain security clearances.

Don't mention it. I saw it again a month or three ago (watched it on YouTube, since I can't be bothered to download), had seen it once before that. Amazing movie that one.
My comments have clicked over into double digits, time for a new blog post!
Thailand, what is up? Well, big floods in the south, disaster areas declared; political instability; the King of Thailand has been in hospital for over a month, but I am fine. Heavy rains near me, but no major personal problems. However, tomorrow, I will be having my root canal work

It's good to hear that your day to day life is pretty happy, root canal aside. The last piece of the puzzle for me is finding a suitable place to live. I have to leave where I am in about a month. My landlord has been trying to evict me for about 10 months. I've been unable to pay the exhorbitant rent due to my serious financial problems that are only now easing up.
The landlord-tenant laws here are very favorable to the tenant, thank goodness. Just like everything else in life, this had a beginning, and now it has an end. Once I get my housing squared away, I'll be pretty much okay.

Too long since I saw the 1997 movie, was that the guy whos place he hid out at before the hit?
wow my blog posts are coming fast and quick. I am now in Bangkok for the Loi Krathong festival. A celebration of the Buddha's birthday, celebrated by launching candles mounted on tiny boats onto lakes, rivers, oceans (water in general). Lots of fun. I will post a few pics.
One week and counting to my first root canal. Wow, how exciting. Can hardly wait. Am...

Probably, but I think I'll pass the few seconds of potential fame.
FRAK !
I am getting a root canal down in Pattaya. No, this is not some complex form of sexual dalliance. Here the word 'root' refers to the nerve of my tooth. Apparently, this nerve is sick, infected with something infectious, and it has to go! Yikes. I find that as I get older I like less and less the idea of losing any bits...

Good luck with that. Mouth pain is one of the worst pains there is. I had a severely impacted and infected tooth not too long ago. It was by far the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Inserting the needle to numb the area before extraction caused me to let out a blood-curdling scream, which i'd never done before at the dentist.
Oops. maybe I shouldn't be telling you that at this time? Will your dentist put you out during the procedure? Mine doesn't do that. Maybe it's time for me to find one that does.

Lying in bed, waiting for my gf to come visit me. She went to Bangkok for a few days to attend a beautician course. Wondering about life and such. Really, what I am wondering about is the shortness of life. I am 53, still in good condition, but pondering what the future holds. There is little certainty, and soon enough we will die. Hardly original,...

haha im guessing you'll be fine in that department for a while. and my hoo-ha is healing quite well

A new post, gee, I got 4 commenters last time. I must be getting popular. I am not sure, but perhaps I should add more personal angst to my posts? Most blogs I read are filled with pain, self-doubt and problems. However, my life seems ok, I have money, a few goals, few serious problems (none really) and the leisure to travel and enjoy myself....

Ok, I have been enjoying life in Pattaya for the past few weeks, and have come to a decision as to what to do next. I will be attending an archaeological conference in Hanoi in early December. Wow, not too exciting you might say? Well, history and archaeology are my primary academic interests, and this hot chick from the Phils I met online will be...

As i continue to dig myself out of Hell, i don't feel anywhere near my age. I'm energized and can't wait to start living again. I can definitely attest to the old adage, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".
I see you're friends with King_. She's one one of the best people on here in my opinon.
I hope things are going well for you.
