Hello to all my SG friends. Time for a new Ian blog 
This blog is all about the great city of Perth, my home town. I am staying here for a few weeks over xmas and the new year to see friend, family, my accountant and lawyer. Hopefully, in that order. it is in fact good to be back in Perth, a restful place. However, I will be returning to south asia soonest.
About Perth--first, like everything in Australia (ok, 99% of everything) it is named after something in the UK, in this case Perth Aust is named after Perth Scotland. (You may also have noticed the wonderful imagination the early settlers of Australia showed in the naming of their new country: Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, etc.).
Founded in 1829 with convicts and economic refugees, the population slowly grew, attracted by gold and cheap land (err, there were already people living on this land, but well, there you go, progress). Until now, the early 21st century (where things have not changed that much, really), the Australian city of Perth is a wealthy and prosperous city, home to over 1.5m people. The wealth is produced by the eternally abundant supplies of minerals (gold, nickel, iron, etc), found in WA, which we now sell to China and India.
Perth is a beautiful city, it lies along the beautiful Swan River. A small CBD, surrounded by kms of suburbia. Businesses, malls, universities, it is all here!

Like I said, I never trained Muay Thai enough to become good at it, nor did I get the chance to try it out for self defense, but it's bloody fun.
Been in Thailand for a long time? Wanted to go there for some time, but I've never managed to save up the money
Yeah, I know it can be cheap, which was sort of what I was looking for back then. I planned to save up about 50-70.000 krona (7-10K Australian dollars) and spend as long as possible (until money ran out and all I had left was a ticket back) there to train muay thai. Never managed to get as much money as I needed though.
You staying in Perth? I like those picture, very pretty place, looks very much like an idealized European town/city
Hm, mining...wonder what qualifications one needs? I assume there's not much swinging a pick axe these days
