For those of you that have known me for more than a year, it is that time again. For those of you that haven't welcome to my little self induced hell on earth. This certain hell begins everyyear with the mental recitation of a poem so here you go:

A Drunken Man's Praise Of Sobriety

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

COME swish around, my pretty punk,
And keep me dancing still
That I may stay a sober man
Although I drink my fill.

Sobriety is a jewel
That I do much adore;
And therefore keep me dancing
Though drunkards lie and snore.
O mind your feet, O mind your feet,
Keep dancing like a wave,
And under every dancer
A dead man in his grave.
No ups and downs, my pretty,
A mermaid, not a punk;
A drunkard is a dead man,
And all dead men are drunk

Every year I quit drinking from the day after the Super Bowl until the Thursday before St. Patrick's Day. I call it my Irish Lent because no Irish guy would ever want to celebrate a sober lent with St. Pat's right in the middle. Every year life presents itself with it's little challenges and this year, already, is no exception. For one, I am a big fan of No Reservations and this Monday (the first day of my sobriety) Bill Murray (a big fan of his too) is a guest on it. They will, without a doubt be consuming copious amounts of alcohol, rubbing it in as I sit and stare with a little drool forming at the corner of my mouth like a kid at his first porn shop. Fr two, I get to drive to Ukiah for work (3 hours from my house) and be there at 4:30am which seriously limits the amount f fun I can have during my last day of drinking, For three, I'll be headed on to Eureka after that where there is a collection of five breweries that I love but will not be able to partake in the wares of. Fortunately, moonbeam is coming with me and has a way of keeping me distracted from pretty much just about anything.

"So", you must wonder, "does he have any Mardi Gras related parties to prepare him for the drought he is about to experience?" Of course. This weekend should be full of them and I am hoping to clear my head by Wed. of next week to tell you all about them.

On to my next order of things. or those of you who have know me for more than a year or two, I have again signed up to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It s a cool 39 mile stroll through San Francisco over two days (and by cool, I mean "wind ripped sweat and blood pouring off the forehead, chaffing in uncomfortable places, blisters the size of frisbees on my feet" kind of cool). I know a lot of people don't have cash and I understand that I really don't know a lot of you but if you have a little extra (anything, really) feel free to donate. The link is below this and I'll spoiler some directions for you. And for those of you willing to show moral support, a kind word, or a flashing of the boob is always appreciated.

Aaron's walk for boobs

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Once you get to the page from the link above, click on the donate now button.
It asks you to perform a search.
I am a participant.
I am walking in the 2010 San Francisco walk and my name is Aaron Baca.
Fill all of that out and hit find a walker crew member. My name will show up in pink below the search box. Click on that. And there you are. My page. Have fun making fun of the pic of me in my little pink shirt and while you do, check out the donate now button. Don't be bothered by the fact that $100 is the cheapest suggested donation. They have a clear box where you can put in any amount right underneath it. (I think it is a cheap ply myself.) If anyone is weary to do a donation on the internet, contact me and we can arrange a check donation.

The minimum for me to collect is $1800 so please, anything is nice. Even $5. And thank you in advance.

Apart from that, super bowl is this weekend. Moonbeam and I have a bet. I'm taking the Saints because I want to stay loyal to the NFC but I have a feeling that the Colts are gonna win it.

SO, what are you doing for super bowl? Who are you taking? Any bets?

A couple years ago, I realized I needed to cut way back on my alcohol consumption or I was going to become an alcoholic. So, I quit drinking for a few months completely. It wasn't easy at first, but it got easier as I went along. Now, I'm back to being able to drink casually and not over do it. But every now and then I feel that urge to get plastered sneaking up on me again. So, I'm thinking I might adopt your Irish Lent thing next year. Not a bad idea at all! And I'm half Irish!
