Not as easy as cutting it off cheese.
A while back, we had a garbage disposal installed in our apartment by our new landlord (very generous of him, right?). Well, when said disposal was installed, something went wrong.
It first started off as a trail of water that ran by my feet after I had washed the dishes. Thinking I was just being a slob in my cleanliness, I just cleaned it up and went on my merry way.
Then came the ceiling tiles in the part of the basement that is finished. Only roughly a third of our basement is finished like that, the rest is just the classic cement basement - anyways, I was stapling up some chickenwire to prevent the cats from jumping up into the ceiling tiles. While going about my "manly" duties I noticed that some of the tiles were soggy... I mean REAL soggy, so soggy that one fell apart upon touching it. I call our landlord to inform him of the leak and we leave it at that.
Along with the leak came a "odor", that musty, mildewy smell that stench that comes along with old old basments, I have taken corrective action to this - mopping the floor, freshening the air about us, but nothing really worked. Then this morning, I had an epiphany. I was thinking about the episode of CSI, that had the strong weightlifter type guy dies by what looks to be bluntforce trauma, but what in fact accelerated his demise was mold!
Being that I've had respritory issues and hacking up phlem over the past few weeks, I went to into immeadiate paranoid action. I stared by taking out the celing tiles that had water spots on them, then I went to the main odor scource - the sink.
can you guess what I found?
Mold, and LOTS of it.
I cleaned up what I could and as fast as one could say "eeew", I called our landlord to inform him of my discovery and he's getting the maintenice guy out here either friday or saturday (I want to be there for it). From the looks of of what I could see, the whole floorboard under the sink needs to be ripped out.
I hope eerything can get fixed soon. Who knows how long it's been there, who knows if one of my cats will drop dead from this, who knows if one of us won't get VERY sick.
Baa... This sucks.
