Ive decided to do a bit of a media/television fast. Recently Ive noticed that I have developed a more negative self concept that I think has some causal link to the media and the information that bombards us that we usually think we are desensitised towards. This sort of information has the intention of selling us stuff, or gaining our interest by presenting us directly and indirectly with ideas about particular bodies, fashion, sex, etc.
So the plan is Iam going to try to stay away from the theatres, movies, television, fashion and other magazines that apparently reflect cultural trends (ie standards and norms) and the internet for a month as much as possible. I will check back here to report on my blog about how my feelings on myself have changed (if they change at all) every week. I will also report after that week if I have cheated why I cheated and how I cheated. I will still be able to read, do art, listen to music and reflect. This is meant to be a cultural fast of sorts so I will refrain from sexual contact with myself and others as well.
Really, I want to see what happens if I do this. It should be interesting! Peace out all!
