Well, recently I have been kind of neglecting my blog, for not apparent reason. However since i'm extremely bored at the moment I thought I might contribute. I've decided to see how good I can get at playing chess. Yes it's nerdy but when I was younger I was an extremely good natural player. I had no formal training in the game, nor did I read a lot of books on the topic. But I placed third in my province in my age division, and got honorable mention for being a rising star on the scene.

So why did I just stop playing the game. I guess in high school, girls and music kind of took my attention. Not to mention my newly found interest in philosophy. My new goal, is to read as much about chess as I can. Maybe devote an hour or so a day to studying it. And generally just get to know the game inside and out. Next, I will compete in a local tournament to see how good I can place. Who knows maybe I will bring a little rock to the game.

Anyways that's what I've been up to, besides reading tons of philosophy. Recently I was required to read Dennett's "Elbow Room", in which Dennett developes kind of a deflationist compatibalist view about free will. He neglects a lot of the actual cases that philosophers of the past have come up with and declared them essentially groundless. I would have to disagree. Not to mention he doesn't really develope an adequate case for "agent causation", something any philosopher adressing this issue is going to have to do when tackling the subject.
