Got back from 'up island' tonight. Took the little two-car train up to Qualicum Beach Saturday morning where my friends Alesha and Randy picked me up. We had a bite to eat and a couple beers at some tourist trap with half an old Chevy hanging on the wall and then went to the skate park in neighbouring Parksville where I promptly crashed and smashed my hip and pulled a serious muscle in my groin.

Sunday we went out to the world-reknowned Long Beach in the rain (still a beautiful place, whatever the weather) and watched a bunch of people try to surf almost universally without success. In Tofino we cruised the surf and skate shops including a brand new one called Raven where I bought a new hoody and another called Live-to-Surf, where I bought a Bico bracelet. (My friends bought more than I could keep track of...)

Today we went to Sproat Lake but I couldn't swim on account of my injury, so we just laid in the sun and gabbed and drank beer. Well, they splashed around a little. And Alesha's bikini top broke and flew off behind my back as I waded gingerly into the water, so I missed it - but I've known her so long she's like my sister, so it might have been wierd to see her tits anyway.

I took the train back and got off across the street from an old building burning like crazy at the edge of China Town. Since I had my camera with me I took about 20 shots, but I doubt they'll come out very well, since I didn't have my tripod. By the time I left, they were blasting it from three sides and (so I heard) six fire hydrants, but all that water didn't seem to be having the slightest effect in putting out the blaze.

Back to work tomorrow, goddamnit!
