I saw a television programme tonight. It was a debate on world affairs and the group members were all politicians except for one: he was a poet. I was really impressed by the way he conducted himself. You could see that his primary concern was to listen and to understand. The politicians were interested in being "right" and so they were trying really hard to say all the right things to cut the right image. Words are intellectual tools and like a craftsman you must have skill in using them. The poet was using words to carve out the truth. The politicians on the other hand, were only playing games.
