Wow. I have had one hell of a weekend! Of course it dealt with my attending the indie/hipster clusterfuck that is Coachella.
I can't even begin to talk about everything that happened, so I'll just sum it all up. It started Thursday night when my friends and I saw the Pixies in Davis (yes, I was one of the lucky bastards who got a ticket). Awesome. Fucking. Show.
My friends and I ended up renting a car to get to Coachella since mine and my friend's are both still being repaired. The drive down was easy; four friends and I stayed in the Motel 6 in Palm Springs where hundreds of other indie rockers (and a few befuddled elderly men) roamed the premises.
I won't even go into detail about all the bands I saw. But a quick outline of the bands I saw went like this:
Section Quartet, the full set from Erase Errata (awesome!), part of The Sounds set (impressive enough to get me to purchase their cd!), some of Sahara Hotnights, some of Kinki, the full set by The Stills (not as good as I'd hoped, but decent nonetheless), part of Q and Not U, a few songs from Trail fo Dead, a few songs from the overly crowded Beck performance, all of Death Cab for Cutie (bliss!) , some of Sparta, got pretty close to The Pixies for their whole set (almost as good as Davis!), the second half of The Rapture (dancey fun!), all of Radiohead (they played Creep and Thom laughed while singing it. That alone was worth $150. Kinda.), and finally ended the night watching Krafwerk.
The second day, my friend and I decided to stick it to Coachella. They wouldn't get more than $2 from us! We bought one water, drank about 8 bottles worth by refilling it, went without food for 13 hours straight. We almost died, but take that, pricegouging assclowns!

Anyway, Day 2 went found me: seeing all of Pretty Girls Make Graves, all of !!! (one of my favorites of the whole weekend... fucking awesome!), some of Elefant, some of Broken Social Scene, some of Muse (really, really good stuff, I want to get some of their cds), some of The Killers (Somebody Told Me is such a catchy song), some of The Thrills, some of Thursday, all of Cursive, most of Belle and Sebastian, all of Bright Eyes (anyone else notice Conor's backing guitarist was Nick Zimmer from Yeah Yeah Yeahs?), some of Air, most of Prefuse 73, the intro of Flaming Lips (the singer enclosed himself in a giant plastic ball and had the audience pass him around like a beach ball. That was the coolest thing ever!), all of Mogwai (they always rule live, and this was no exception...), half an hour of The Cure, most of Le Tigre (sparse crowd, but we all danced like madmen/women!) and the encore of The Cure.

And on the way up the next day, I decided to stop in the city and see Death Cab for Cutie again. love
So I'm tired, my ears are permanently damaged, my back is shot, but it was worth it. Oh yes, it was worth it.

so much amazing music. i'm impressed you made it in time for the pretty girls show. i really wanted to see them and !!!, but we just couldn't drag ourselves there in time. glad you were turned on to muse there. they're one of my faves. i couldn't believe how bad the beck show was. total clusterfuck. he was a last minute addition, so the only thing i figure is that they had to throw him in the tent (the smallest one, no less) because they couldn't displace one of the other bands. and i was hoping that the flaming lips would be his back-up band. oh well.

Ohhh, I'm jealous of the music. But I can't stand that crowd and that heat.
