This year my friends seem to have gotten into the habit of throwing everyone who's had a birthday a surprise birthday party. Needless to say they've had to get more and more insidious with each surprise, as some level of suspicion I can only imagine had naturally arisen in the birthdayee's mind. If not, I wonder what is wrong with them. Now, you see, my birthday is coming up. I usually don't make many plans for my brithday, though my friends usually invite me out to a movie or lunch, resulting in a rather low-key celebration. Oddly, though, I've heard absolutely no mention of my impending birthday.

The one thing I don't think they realize, though, is you can't surprise a paranoid person. I'm not trying to brag. Far from it. This is nothing to brag about. This is a sickness, but the fact remains any surprise they can conceive of I thought of weeks ago. My mind has plotted every scenario that is likely possible and every scenario that obviously isn't. It did so as a matter of course while my conscious mind was beginning to understand why Ethan wasn't drawing the swans in the lake, trying to sell the Chicago Diner to my meat-eating friends, or doing research for my paper of doom. The sick thing is, I want to be surprised by whatever they're planning, (And if they're planning nothing, I'll be okay with that.) but my mind won't let me. When it plans for the eventually of ninja abduction, I know I'll never be suprised for a birthday, ever.

Also, I'm sure you've all heard about the Sony DRM debacle going on right now. The sad thing is that it took the realisation not only that your CDs were putting Spyware on your computer, but it was illegal to do anything about it because of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act for what DRM is doing to consumers to get any real mainstream attention.

Ugh, this post has gotten long enough. I'll end off here. May you have wonderful week-ends, each and every one.
