So there I was, in my local WH Smith picking up my new issue of Front.

Up rolled a chap in a wheelchair, asking where the newspapers were. I wasn't 100% sure, so I directed him towards the till, where they usually are.

So I get into the queue. Up rolls the same guy, unable to join the queue at the back due to the limited space, so he waits at the side. Punter after punter went to the till, ignoring this guy, while the checkout guy was trying to hint that they need to serve the chap in the wheelchair. I get to the front of the queue, so I wave the guy in the chair in. Standing next to the fridge, the guy in the chair asks me to pass him a bottle of Irn Bru, so I oblige. He then drops it, so I pick it up and give it to the check out guy. Helping the chap in the chair with his other bits, the checkout guy then tells him his total. He gets out his wallet, struggles to pick out individual coins and then drops his wallet. Coins scatter everywhere, so I'm the only one in the queue to help him buy picking them up. With all his loose change in hand, I pick out what's needed and hand the rest back to the guy in the chair with his wallet. The checkout guy then asks if he (the guy in the chair) wants a bag. "No", he mumbled, "I've got one here." and then proceeds to struggle getting a plastic bag out his backpack. I help him get it out and then help the cashier with the stuff. I hang the bag off the arm rest of his chair after him instructing me to do so. He then drops his wallet again, coins flying everywhere. So again, I bend down and sort the guy out.

He rolled off into the distance without saying a "please" or a "thank you" the whole time, but I didn't care. I was safe in the knowledge that I had done my good deed for the day.

I finally get to the till myself where I was met with "Is that all you're wanting, pal?".

For a minute, I'm slightly shocked. I looked at my copy of Front and think "What's your fucking beef, mate?"

I reply with a simple Scottish "Aye!".

"It's on the house! Enjoy pal!"

I ask why, and he explains it was because I helped the chap.

I know it sounds like I'm boasting and bragging, but it genuinely brightened up my day that my good deed didn't go unnoticed. To them it was a simple gesture of thanks, but to me, getting my favourite magazine for merely helping out another person goes a long way.

Anyway, enough of me talking pish. I wanted to share with you guys, so take from it what you will. Hopefully it proves that not everyone is a selfish scumbag eh?
