The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Commerce and Healthcare receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 39%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Cheese Exports.
The penguin is a protected species, citizens select which government department gets their income tax galleons each year, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, and same-sex marriages are increasingly common. Citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, marijuana is legal in the privacy of your own home, and the death penalty has been reintroduced. Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Eile's national animal is the penguin, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the galleon.
