Thank you for your prayers. The bags arrived safely and we are now clean and clothed.

In other matters:

I find it incredibly depressing to go to an estate sale, and find myself in a house that was clearly running down a long time, is mildewed and cold, and yet the tatty bits left from the lives of the people who until recently lived there are valued as rubies and priced for sale.

I just hate seeing proof that there are people whose priorities are that screwed up.

On one hand, I share your frustration with those people's preoccupation with the trinkets and the temporary. On the other hand, I grew up in Orange, CA, home of the Old Town Preservation Association, an organization well-intentioned, but brainless in practice. Case in point: a man who was an expert on historical architecture had bought a house in old town, and was planning to replace the patio. His plans had to be approved by the OTPA, and they declined it, saying he'd be ruining the historic patio. They relented, however, when he pointed out that the patio he was replacing it with was actually more historically accurate according to the style of architecture and period the house was built.

Don't mind me, though, I just like being the person to point out the exception to the rule. smile

That...and I fucking hate Orange.
