Persistence and an astute (obvious, but still astute) suggestion have paid off. I finally managed to tap into someones wireless connection from my apartment. Am I horrible? The thing of it is, I ran into my landlord the other day, was telling him about how were planning to get a land line, mainly so that we can have internet in our house. So he told me that he and his wife had just set up their wireless modem on the floor above our, and I was more than welcome to use it. Well, I dont know if their signal is really weak or if theres a wall on it or what, but Id managed to connect to it for exactly two seconds before his signal disappeared forever.
So I was talking to this kid over the weekend and he said I should try moving around the house. I nodded and scratched my chin as though filing his suggestion deep in my mind, thinking silently Thanks, kid, Ive tried that. But I woke up this morning and figured, what harm would it do to go all the way to the back of the house and try it in the breakfast nook? Whatdya know? Success! The thing of it is, Im pretty sure its not my landlords modem that Im using, and I feel a little dirty. Not to mention the fact that it keeps breaking up (I can just picture it, like that Coke commercial from a few years ago, some guy standing at the window across the alley, looking over my shoulder, flipping the switch right when Im about to get to a REALLY HOT picture. Bitches.
