I've been granted California residency! This will save me, oh, round about $6k a year for the next three or four years (by which point I hope to have two graduate degrees and a teaching certificate and am pretty sure I will be done with school for a good long time).

and yes, the sea of hip little memoirs is can be daunting and flat-out discouraging, i find. i've considered trying my hand at one many times, but i always come back to poems, which will never be hip (and which will never sell!). but they endure.
