Recently, I have been working again on my WALKAIDE fundraiser. It is my goal to be walking independently again by Fall. For those of you who are unfamiliar here is the story behind my fundraiser:

My name is Virginia. Although, my friends call me "Jenny." I am 31 years old. I live in Ansted, WV and I am disabled. I was born with Cerebral Palsy. Due to my disability, I use a wheelchair. I do not let my disability define me however, or stop me from achieving my goals. I have a Regents Bachelors of Arts from West Virginia State University. Currently, I'm a graduate student at Concordia University Online Portland studying for an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction. Also, I am a self-published author of poetry and a photography book about my home state of WV. Not to mention the fact, that I am a patient advocate for Easter Seals Foundation, currently advocating for the creation of a more diverse Barbie doll, especially one that more accurately depicts those individuals who are part of the disabled community. It is my ultimate goal to become a college professor. I hope someday I am able to make an impact on someone's life, whether it be hands on with teaching or through inspiration due in part to my writing.

On a personal level, I am also a stepmother to a six year old named Brandon who is just now getting used to the trials and tribulations that come with being a Kindergartener. His father and I have been in a relationship for almost three years now. We are quite busy at the moment, as we are getting ready to start the process of buying our first home together. Although, we are financially struggling at the moment.

In the meantime, we live with my boyfriend's parents and two siblings. The house is quite cramped I must say, as we also have 20 cats and two dogs. One is named Bandit and the other is named Mutley.

In my spare time I am a complete geek in all sense of the word. I enjoy anime, comics, and concerts. I enjoy these things so much it is very common for me to travel to different cities just to attend a show or convention. To add to my geek status I have a tattoo on my upper left arm of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. To most it is a pretty boring concept, but I think it pretty much sums me up as a person. In other words, I guess you can say with me around there is never a dull moment.

Well, like yourself I have a dreams and goals that I want to achieve. One such dream involves the ability to do something most people take for granted. I would love to be able to walk outside and play with my stepson. I would like to take a stroll and hold hands with my fianc. I want to have the chance to WALK! How can you help with this you ask? Well, the answer is simple.

There is this new assistive device for Cerebral Palsy patients who experience drop foot like myself called "WALKAIDE." This is great news. I immediately called my doctor and the company where I get my orthotic equipment hoping to get one. However, as usual my insurance will not pay for it. It costs $4000 dollars. Having this would improve my walking ability immensely. I have been confined to a wheelchair for three years now. Walking again would be a dream come true. Help me make this dream a reality.
