Many of us use social media as a way to connect with old friends, share stories with family and more.
But one woman in our region is reaching out for help with something most of us take for granted, the ability to move independently.
Virginia Tucker has cerebral palsy. She is bound to a wheelchair. The only wheelchair she has is broken and too small for her. Tucker says her insurance won't pay for a new one for several more years. So she has taken her story online.
Tucker has set up several locations for social media friends to donate to help her buy a $400 wheelchair. She says she isn't asking for a motorized scooter or anything expensive. She wants a safe transport style wheelchair.
"I am proud of the way I am," Tucker said regarding her disability. "If there were a cure tomorrow I wouldn't take it because if I took it I wouldn't be me. I just need a new set of wheels."
Tucker says she hopes sharing her story about her struggle to afford a wheelchair and gain mobility and independent will help her connect to others as well.
She wants those with disabilities or those who want to advocate for people in her shoes to friend her on Facebook.
