Happy Birthday Freddie Mercury!!
Today would have been Queen frontman Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday. 65! I'm sure he would have been celebrating it in some ridiculous fashion and still tearing up the microphone with vocals unmatched by his younger contemporaries.
You can debate who the best rock singer was, who the best rock frontman is, who the most talented performer/songwriter was.. but put all that together and to me, Freddie was undeniably the best. He did it all, and he did it like no one else could.
When Freddie died in 1991, not only was he one of the first big casualties of AIDS, he was the first big casualty of a celebrity that I felt on a personal level. His music has inspired me, thrilled me, brought me to tears and made me stop and think and feel. A fantastic gift to the world.. gone so soon, but thanks for the time we did have, Freddie. We miss you.
