John Cusack is going to say anything he pleases, and if you're smart you won't try to stop him. He attributes the genesis of his new anti-war film, War, Inc., to the moment seven years ago when Bush administration spokesman Ari Fleischer had the gall to look Americans in the eye and tell them that they "better watch what they say." "I was like,...

The phrase "love it or hate it" was made for The Tracey Fragments, a boldly experimental new film that uses an aggressive split-screen technique to dramatize the chaotic, fragmented state of mind of its lead character -- a 15-year-old runaway named Tracey Berkowitz, played by a pre-Juno Ellen Page. As Tracey wanders through a foreboding landscape wrapped in a blanket, ostensibly searching for...

I actully got to sit with Bruce when he showed the film here back in november. I spent like 3 hours sitting in the small cafe owned by the theatre talking to him before the movie it was amazing.
You've seen Frank Kozik's work before, even if you dont realize it. His work is so iconic and voluminous that it's probably already somewhere in the recesses of your mind. He's done album covers and images for bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Ice T, George Clinton, Green Day, Beck, The Offspring,...

Well, if you're in SF, Frank and I are in a group show this Friday at 63 Bluxome. We have multiple pieces and they're all $50 each.
pick up something nice for me kthx ![]()

He has a solo show at 63 Bluxome in SF tonight. (Right around the corner from my show at 4th and Brannan - Chrome Bags). I highly recommend checking out both.
Theres a certain world-weariness about Harmony Korine as he presses firmly against the urinal. I introduce myself and tell him well have the interview out in the garden since the Soho Grands lounge feels like a proofing oven. He straightens himself up, says, Fine, man, whatever. The fact that I just caught Americas most imaginative filmmaker in the lavatory carries with it sobering implications, which...

Harmony Korine is one of my favorite directors. I think he is amazing at capturing whatever it is he would like to portray. His use of Spank Rock in the background of "Michael Jackson's" visit to the old folk's home in Mister Lonely is hilarious albeit strange.
Gummo is my all time favorite, followed by KIDS. I doubt he'll ever read this, but I want him to know that he rocks!

enjoyed interview. thanks.
Janice Erlbaum raised eyebrows in the literary world of nonfiction with the release of her first memoir, appropriately titled Girlbomb. Girlbomb takes you on a wild ride through the destruction, instability, and pure chaos of her adolescence and young adulthood in New York City's pre-Giuliani era,...

Great interview. Not enough to make me actually see Speed racer but still nicely done.

wow, no tv as a kid...
speed racer the movie had some tremendous potential. casting was really good. i wished that they did more campy things with it to give it a japanese cartoon converted to english feel. and had this been released as a 3-d movie and referenced a little raver music, it would have transcended to a whole new level of "speed".
(ps: i was never a big fan of the cartoon, but liked the move. matthew fox added a lot to that too.)
thank you erin

Theres a scene in the upcoming film Speed Racer where actress Susan Sarandon sits down with her on-screen son Emile Hirsch and tells him, with tears in her eyes, how proud she is to be his mother. Amid the films riotous neon graphics and throttling, live-action anime sequences, their exchange is a touching and quiet respite. The viewer is reminded of just how damn talented...

"Rioutous neon graphics" ... ooooh, that's how the movie actually looks -- and here, I'd thought my TV was all gaussed out.
I'll wait for the video and convert it to black and white, then watch it without side effects of nausea. Thanks for the idea, SG.
Rock on, John Goodman. Good to see he's keeping on with a career film.

I thought Speed racer looked amazing and that there is to much discontent towards the green screen.I love ...this technology. It is only enhanced when you get great actors in front of it.
Still... I've GOT to see this movie... i forgot it even existed!
