When Ipecac Records band Tomahawk first surfaced in 2001 with its self-titled debut, rock talk swirled regarding the meaning behind the bands name and, more specifically, whether or not it was a reference to Native American culture. It didnt take a genius to realize that, yesit was. Now with the recent release of its third album Anonymous, Tomahawk has delivered an album that finally bridges...

Imagine waking up in the morning and heading off to work. Except, instead of an office you spend your day chained up in a wet, dirty basement. And instead of a boss snooping around your desk, your biggest concern is whether or not you're next in line to be sliced, diced and devoured by the pearly whites of the cannibalistic Stepford Wife who just feasted...

No mention of the fact that he joined one of the greatest rock bands, Failure, for their last recording (a cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence") and tour... I'm going to go listen to Fantastic Planet and pout now.

The day that I conducted this interview, while I was holed up in a room talking with Ron Asheton about the Stooges, Los Angeles burst into flames. A couple of stupid kids setting off firecrackers in the hills started a brushfire that nearly swallowed the Hollywood sign. When I emerged afterwards, I found that the sky was smeared with ash. That night I had a...

The first time I visited the set of a Burke Roberts film he stuffed me in the trunk of a car in downtown Los Angeles, quite literally, and told me to keep my head down. He was filming a scene that involved a traffic accident and there I was, trying to take mental notes on his process while crammed up against film equipment and props,...

Quite pretentious but interesting none the less. He seems to have a hunger for either total truth or controversy? Not quite sure yet, either way I'd keep an eye on this one. biggrin

Thanks for the comment. I know we got off on the proverbial wrong foot - so it's appreciated.
...for the record. it's both. I find that Truth tends to be synonymous with Controversy these days. And pretentiousness has always been synonymous with rebellion.

Cheers.

I admire the effort of Burke, and agree on his opinions of what film making is today and what it once was a long time ago. I just dont think there is any point in rebelling against Hollywood any more.I might have felt that once, when I was really in Fassbinder, his films still ignite a passion inside me,but I also think if he were still around that he wold have eventually broke into the mainstream media of film. The main point of films are to entertain. That is the basic credo behind the Hollywood sign on the hill,"larger than life." A passionate filmmaker can make something for the crowds and use that finance to make something for himself.I find nothing wrong with using one means to get the other.True art will always be regulated to a small crowd, and only history will say if it is remembered,or Youtube if you prefer.

There are drummers, and then there are street drummersthe guys who truly aren't afraid to get down and dirty with their craft. The musicians in Street Drum Corps are both, having played played traditional drums in rock bands for years before lending their sticks to something decidedly more free-form and experimental. Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman once dubbed Street Drum Corps the punk-rock Stomp, and...

Veteran musician Robert Fripp once said, Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence. If thats the case, then the Knives are the whisky at last call that fills the cup of the tired, Sunset Strip rock scene. Emerging from a city where the music seems stuck in a cycle of premature adoration, Los Angeles the Knives command attention, using their DIY rock...
