Madison is cool because, unlike many other cities, we actually have respect for our women. There is an organization in town called the Women's Transit Authority (WTA). Among other things, they provide free taxi rides for women in desperate situations. I'm very familiar with how the crises hotline system works because I have dated a few feminists who have volunteered their time there. I suppose when you get right down to the essence of feminism, I am also a feminist.

So, this morning I found myself calling the Women's Crises Center in Colorado Springs, CO on behalf of my sister. She got herself in trouble again, with a new abusive boyfriend, and she needed help getting "the fuck out of Dodge!" I was shocked to find out that not only does the city of Colorado Springs, CO NOT have something similar to the WTA, but they couldn't even conceive of what I was talking about.

Long story short, we were able make this exodus happen by calling a taxi service and using the credit card over the phone. They were very nice people. Much nicer, much more helpful, and much more concerned than the Women's Crises Center. They even picked up a submarine sandwich for her and put it on the tab.

So anyway, I still believe that Madison is the best city in the United States of America, and this whole situation did not do jack shit to change my mind.
