Ethical questions I couldn't shake after tonights viewing of Star Wars: A new Hope. Did the hundreds if not thousands of men and women who Luke obliterated on the Death Star deserve their fate? Does the Empire allow volunteers? And if not, if they didn't deserve that instant annihilation, who was the bigger tragedy? The Indepedent Contracters of Jedi know what they were walking into in construction of the Death Star? The name alone suggests they'd have a general idea what they were building. But where does it end, Rebel Alliance?I want to know where the line in the sand was drawn. Who is an Imperial and an innocent civilain in the eyes of Rebel leadership?
Basically, I need to know if Admiral Ackbar should be tried for war crimes.

We can agree that the Emperor and his Sith minion Vader are Evil, can we not?
We can agree that democracy is preferable to vile Sith theocratic fascism, can we not?
We can agree that if your reflexes wielding a lightsaber were so mystically attuned to the near-future that you could block lasers (which travel at or very near the speed of light) then no other guy with a lightsaber (which travel at or very near the speed of some guy's arm) would ever be able to strike you, can we not?
