Spoilers ahead for the movie Blink Twice.
The movie was gorgeous. The color palette and choices of location shooting were phenomenal. The editing was good and the costuming was classic cult filmography.
That said, I am so sick and fucking tired of women having to be tortured and die in movies and books so the artist feels suddenly justified to exact any form of vengeance upon the evils of men.
As someone who writes what they know, the themes of rape and abuse wind up in my work too but I decided long ago to make sure anyone who hurts women in my work dies and in an endless loop of the worst and most creative ways possible.
That's not revenge fantasy or wish fulfillment, it's a necessity of our awful "modern" era. We've become willfully awful children as a nation and a world people, selfish, spiteful and miserly with love, and just like poorly behaved children we need simple and obvious parables in our media.
Long story short, Blink Twice would have been a much better movie if every man in it died howling on fire, and every women deserved to make it off that fucking island. Making the protagonist into a money grubbing user did nothing but muddy her character and cancel her moral standing. Money ain't shit, blood is much better.
