Huzzah! If I could physically unscrew the top of my skull, I'm certain that a legion of rosey-cheeked cherubim would come flying out, bearing longbows made out of chocolate and arrows of honey-sweetness. At the moment, it feels as though the entire population of Fraggle Rock is having an orgy underneath my skin, and I'm enjoying every puppet-ass-slapping moment.

Reasons for such radiant, all-consuming joy: I'm not sick anymore. Granted, I still can't laugh and I get the occasional coughing fits, but dammit, I can get a good nights rest, I can work a whole day without getting the ol'drunken Gumby legs, my libido is back, and all in all the Emperor is back in 88% of his full imperial majesty. Thank Eris for codeine. It may taste like rancid honey, but it is truly a magical elixir.

In other news: it rained this morning. In Arizona, rain is ALWAYS news. Part of the reason why its news to us (and newsworthy to everyone else) is that people in this state do not know how to properly function in a downpour. Reports flooded in today of idiots left and right getting stuck in washes and having to be bailed out by the city. Most sane human beings, witnessing an underpass loaded with water, would think "I shouldn't drive headlong into a giant fucking pond". Not your Arizona motorist, though, no sir, they have moxie, they have gumption, they have the courage granted only to the violently moronic. Half of Cactus Road (pretty much the section that stretches past the bookstore) was shut down due to these urban surfers. However, even something as elementary and virtually-impossible-NOT-to-notice as a closed street proved a taxing challenge for the Arizona motorist, for as I was walking home, rocking Swervedriver's "Rave Down" on my trusty iPod, I got to bear witness to the glorious sight of a motorist driving straight toward the closed road. At the last second, the motorist had the good sense to brake before crashing into the row of traffic cones, and pulled into reverse. Problem: they were pulling into reverse in the middle of an intersection with half its lanes blocked off. Much hornblowing, obscenity-screaming, and fist-pumping was forthcoming. In spite of my hatred of being a pedestrian, it is in these rare moments that I cherish my lack of a motor vehicle. Being confined to one's feet has its perks, especially in being able to slowly walk away from a traffic clusterfuck and listen closely and savor each and every choice curse.

Matters pertaining to the consumption of media:

-Started rereading Katherine Dunn's Geek Love, just for the hell of it.
-Started using Pandora, an online internet radio station. I'm in full-on music geek heaven right now: I've got music channels devoted to surf rock, lounge music, shoe-gaze, and New Order all at my disposal. Made some interesting discoveries: first time I've heard Azure Ray and Sloan, and I like what I'm hearing.
-Grant picked up Guitar Hero a week ago, and I've worked my way through Easy Mode (Medium is a pain in the ass). The song I'm best at? Ziggy Motherfucking Stardust. I can play it with my eyes closed.
-Watched The Marx Brothers "A Night At The Opera" the other night. Loved it (especially the contract negotiation scene between Groucho + Chico). I can't wait to go as Groucho for Halloween.
-Also tried watching Powell & Pressburger's A Canterbury Tale while I was sick. Couldn't finish it, but not because the film wasn't any good: I was really getting into it, but bronchi-fatigue was setting in, and I couldn't be a trooper and finish the movie. I'll have to this weekend.

And on that note, I've got family to call, drinks to consume, and reading to do.
msstabby:
Does Gatorade really have a strawberry flavor, or did you make that up?

oh, and p.s. - Oldman and Walken were both in True Romance, but I don't remember if they had any scenes together. I'm thinking they didn't. But I'll watch it tonight and find out. Of course this means I have to watch Xtian Slater, but I'll suck it up cuz it's a great flick.

okbye.
