I have had quite lovely days since my fiascos at the beginning of last week....it is nice not to feel so miserable. My head is clearing and I am finding myself with all of this newfound energy...and am becomming confused as to wear to point my enthusiasm. For the first time in awhile I feel like doing a million different things and have not a...

My head hurts...too many cigarettes...ugh....
I'm sure its that and the combination that I realized around 5:30 that I hadn't eaten anything all day but coffee (that's one of the major food groups, right ?). I then went to my refridgerator and my cupbords...found nothing but condiments and milk.... and remembered I hadn't eaten anything because I had no groceries. Off the grocery store I...

I had a good day too. And too many cigarettes... Go figure.
escottie:
i'm told that food is important during the course of a day. despite knowing that, i still live on coffee and cigarettes some days.
it does wonders for my girlish figure.
it's snowing. apparently it will continue snowing until 3-5 inches have fallen. as dry as things have been, i'm psyched. i'll make a snow angel on your behalf.

Listening to the sweet words of Gordon Downie...whom if you've ever seen perform live appears to be the purely angryest man in existence...but he sure does sing sweetly

Since you looked at my art, I figured I'd look at yours, too. Nice work. I particularly like the fifth one, which is splendid, though they are all well rendered.
And you're in VEGAS! How absolutely awesome! You're one of the few people who commented in my journal.
Hope to hear from you again.

another good day...that's two in a row and I am starting to feel more like myself every day...and I realized that I don't have to go to work on Monday because its President's Day and we don't have school!!! whoooohoooooo!!!! Another day to sleep in and perhaps I can get my studio together and paint for once. And if I can hold on for another...

I am happy to report that I finally had a good day despite the fact that I only recieved two hours of sleep due to my terrible day yesterday and the looming fact that I was determined to go back and try to fix what had happened. I ended up having a really good discussion with my supervising administrator who apologized profusely for HER behavior...

Welcome to Las Vegas. Sorry you aren't happy here. I have been here 27 years and figure one place is as good as another. I read about your saga and from your description of the work it seems like the admin was out of line, especially since it is artistic expression. My wife is a high school librarian and says her principal is all about the image the school projects so she works real hard to stay on his good side. I teach yoga part time at UNLV so they leave me alone there, I was told I couldn't burn inscense in the PE building but that was understandable. Mr Blister says your looking for some good soup? I had some good sweet potato soup at Mesa Grill @ Ceasars on sunday.

I'll write some more later, but I wanted to just stop by for now and leave you a 'hello'. Las Vegas can be tough. I'm out here alone, too. We'll swap stories . . . hang in there. It gets easier. I promise.
You like seeing really good live shows? Yeah!

So...I've been utterly deflated for the second day in a row. It is just not my week I have a feeling. Which is sad to realize since it is only Tuesday and I have three days to go before the grace of Saturday and Sunday. The art department, particularily me, has been officially censored. One of the paintings that I had hung up a girl...

you've reached the absolutely best time for a lesson in how different people see different things in the same work of art. that art is subjective, and that it's not wrong to put emotions on a canvas, that what the artist believes is beautiful and emotive sometimes is not understood--is even dismissed--by the outside world.
but that it's okay....

oh *sigh* that sucks. sounds like the admins there are pretty reactionary because they're completely at a loss for how to handle the kids.
I just posted some of my artwork...mostly photos and some drawings. I tried to keep the photos to those where one couldn't directly makeout the person's face. I don't want to piss anyone off just yet...actually it helped to cut down the variables by 2/3. I have a lot of shit. I still have to do my paintings. I had to leave so many of...

Sorry to hear your day was shitty, mine was pretty cool except for tonight's movie which I just decided to give up on. The drawings: I really like #2, that stomach is something else. Next #7, then perry and courtney also
. They're all way beyond anything I could attempt. As far as the photos go, I'm not sure I'm qualified to give any kind of real serious opinion. I just don't know what all goes into photography aside from the day to day point & click smiling relatives and such. I definately don't see anything wrong with 'em. This is just me, but I think it's important: I'd rather get negative criticism from somebody who's opinion I value than an enthusiastic response when I know it's not weighted in much. Having said that, I will tell you which ones I like the best without really being able to say why. black & white I like 1, 8, & 13. Why is somebody drawing on a cigarette ALWAYS a good shot? Maybe because I'm a nicotine freak and I haven't had a smoke since September, I dunno. In the color photos I dig 9 & 10 the most. Another just me: I have some odd art "hang-ups" so to speak & I think that in photography I only really care about the subject, I don't really want to be aware that it is an involved process that requires work and thought. I can assure you that if I were a photographer my pictures would be crap because I'd probably insist upon doing them with as little forethought & decision-making as possible. Anyhow, BRAVO for you & thanks for putting them up, I thoroughly enjoyed them!
I'm sure it's quite entertaining to see you pulling your hair in all directions. Is it advisable to give a pug a cat nap?

ya know, now i know which string to pull to make you jealous! like, i bought a big chunk of Norman's Bread at French Meadow on Friday. on saturday, it was 55 and sunny, so i sat at Bob's drinking coffee all afternoon. ha!
there's a pretty strong SG Twin Cities group. after LA, New York and San Francisco, we're the most regional active group. there are about 200 members, with a core group of 25. the preferred group activity is breakfast at CC Club almost every saturday. neodrunk is our Den Mother. members smitty, pinko, taiko, rylie, billybillybilly (the group owner), hattie, me, SuicideGirl judas, and SuicideGirl roby all live within 3 or 4 blocks of Hum's (as a landmark). dakota and columbianlvr live above It's Greek To Me.
i'm sure billybillybilly would let you into the group (it's private). you'd face homesickness every day, though.
i'm happy to add you as a friend. seems like you'll be a good one for conversation, and i sure can identify with the wasteland that is Las Vegas!
just a thought...you might want to peek in on Sisu. you two seem to have a lot in common as art teachers, and she's isolated on the tundra of Saskatchawan.

Drawings I've done
"I promise that one day everything will be better for you." --- I just finished watching Donnie Darko for the first time. I feel haunted and weighted. I haven't seen anything that powerful for a long time. And the song at the end...one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
Mad World ... sung by Gary Jules ... cover of a Tears for Fears...

It's a good sad though, right? I just watched that movie a month ago, it does hit pretty hard. Best film I've seen in the last few years. I don't really recall that song, but it is indeed a mad world. Absorbing something like that that really amplifies the madness & beauty can be kinda serious for a bit, especially if I'm already a little off balance about something. One of the best feelings in the world, although it's not "comfortable" like you'd think of a good feeling. It's a weird discomfort that I always welcome, but I couldn't really live a day to day life with it around. If it didn't pass I'd have to drop everything and just start walking or running or something. I always try to hang on to it for as long as I can. There's a couple books that usually have that effect on me, and certain music sometimes. Nothing I can really count on working the magic every time though. Cheers.

Have you seen Magnolia? I just watched it last night, pretty damn good also. Similar theme of timing/coincidence/divine intervention, etc... Long damn movie, I put it in at 9:00ish & it wasn't over until well after midnight, which makes waking up at 5 a pisser. Don't slack too much on getting that artwork up, I'm curious.
If anyone has a laptop computer...they should read my warning now. Because I have just spent 5 long hours on the phone trying to fix my computer. Maybe I'm a computer idiot...which I will gladly admit...but I didn't know this. Aparently when the automatic updates on your tiny bar at the bottom tell you to update your computer DO NOT DO IT!!!! Because apparently it...

I'm miserable...still sick and missing Minneapolis. Its raining here. Which is actually nice -- except then they issue flash flood warnings and the people act like maniacs because they don't know how to drive in rain??????? It seems absurd to me ... but then I come from the land of snow and frigid cold. And its partly that I miss the Minnie apple...and that I...

Welcome to Vegas, sorry to hear you're not liking it. I'm not too surprised though. There is a lot to like about the desert if you can get out of town occasionally. If the city gets to be unbearable make the kids paint in the manner of Bosche. Give grades based upon the number of severed body parts they incorporate into a picture. And work on a maniacle laugh. By the way, people here just don't know how to drive that's all. It's been raining a lot lately, but it's the same when the sun's out. Don't let anyone merge, it's a sign of weakness.

YAY! I made a new freind
What grade do you teach? About the things in your head, it probably isn't good to get into the habit of keeping them inside if your goal is to be productive with them, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new. I've always assumed that practice and discipline are more important than inspiration. But that's advice coming from somebody who's never been very artistically inclined, or at least never productive. It's gotta help somewhat if you surround youself with creative people, which can be pretty difficult here. Have you gone to a first friday? I'm not very up on happenings & hangouts, but that might be a good place to make some friends. Hang in there.
I realize that since I just got this page going I should say something facinating and perhaps witty in an attempt to grab someone/anyone's attention, but to be quite honest...I just don't have it in me right now. I am terribly sick and feeling sorry for myself. I stayed home from work and feel horribly guilty because my students are going to probably reek havok...
