That's the way I feel about Anthony Bourdain. Whether it is fiction or a cookbook I am so there. His last book, the Bobby Gold stories I bought on the day it came out and read it by the next day. Like I was eating some incredible meal and couldn't wait for dessert. I was so dissappointed when it was over that it was over. I wanted MORE. So I started reading kitchen confidential again. The book I have given to more people than any other. I Have three copies in my bookshelf, one I bought in England because it had a different cover and words spelled funny.

Oh man. I sure hope things are looking up by now. (I went back to see what your previous journal entry said about your Dad) Our backs are sensitive damn things, that's for sure. A whole lot of intricate, delicate and very important wiring running through a loosely connected row of hollow biscuits that have to support a couple hundred pounds, and bend every which way. Brilliant design God. Boy, I'm sure helping matters here. Brilliant speech Erik. Your Dad's in my prayers. Try not to worry yourself any more than you have to. It does sound like a serious matter, but not a serious danger so much. I know the heart bit sounds scary, I think those things happen more often than we realize, we're unaware unless there's a monitor on us. -And that's why it's there I guess. Your advice on Paris is MUCH appreciated! I've been there before (but I was 15). I think I would appreciate it much more now. More than anything, I am looking for a place to stay. I would much rather rent out a room for a week and a few days then stay in a hotel or in a hostel. It doesn't need to be extravagant (but I am looking for a bathtub - long story). As of now, I am CRAMMING French. I am learning through this amazing software program called The Rosetta Stone, and I am listening and reading as much French as I can get my hands on in the next three months. I am finding it rather easy to read (my vocabulary isn't huge, but I can get the gist of a lot of things), but VERY difficult to speak. It's not that I can't form the words, it's just that I can't think fast enough in the language to form phrases that are half-way intellegent. I'm sure it will get better, but I'm getting impatient!

Anyway, if you have any suggestions on where to stay, or anything else, I would love to hear what you know. This trip is going to break my bank, but I really don't care. I haven't even been planning it for a long time - it just suddenly felt like something I had to do, and since I didn't want to go at the height of the tourist season, and I hate hot weather, I thought May would be perfect.

If you have anything else to share, I would love to hear!

Well, at least they've got a big target on the front of the store you can aim at. The nice people didn't go anywhere, they're all pissed off at different retailers for different reasons. What did they do?
