I saw "X-men: First Class" yesterday. Of course, as a huge X-men fan (even though I only knew them by cartoons - comics were rather rare in late 90's Russia), I am nowhere near being an unbiased viewer. Still, I though that the film was pretty well-made, like all X-men films, by the way (I'm talking to you, Spiderman movies - all being utter disasters).

What I find amazing about the X-men universe (not the whole Marvel universe) is the fact that awesomeness just seems to be floating in the air. I mean, stories evolving around one superhero are fine too, but I love that there so many mutants that are equally important to the plot, and they're (almost) all insanely cool (and so are their powers, which look especially impressive on the big screen). I think that in the real life, I don't meet too many people that feel and/or position themselves as "different" from the rest of the society, so that's another thing that pleases me in the X-men world.

At first, I was a little frustrated that they chose Michael Fassbender to portray Magneto. I guess, after Ian McKellen, any choice would be a bit upsetting.

To my own surprise, as soon as the film started, I suddenly felt a lot better about Fassbender being Magneto. Somehow, it came rather naturally to him. I also wish Rebecca Romjin stayed as Mistique, but well... It's not that important. And she appeared as a cameo. So did High Jackman! It was just one line, but I still loved it. One can never get tired of Wolverine telling everyone to go fuck themselves.

And, the last, but not the least, the always-present (b)romance between Magneto and Professor X was present, as always. I thank everyone (and my imagination) for that.

P.S. Nicholas Hoult was ok as Hank, but when he became Beast, he looked absolutely ridiculous. Really. Just look at this. The make-up is like Michael Jackson's in "Thriller".

P.P.S. And that was no secret scene after the credits! What the hell?!

P.P.P.S. I'm sorry for using so many brackets (I just love them that much). smile
