So I've become an instant fan of Mariska Hargitay of "Law and Order" SUV, or is it SVU, especially after seeing her last night on Leno. She showed a side of her that was very pleasant, warm, personable, candid, spontaneous and she gives "good interview". In my opinion, she may even surpass Cate Blanchett or even Megan McCormick of Globetrekker. On L&O SVU, she's always...

So I finally finished the entire first season of HBO's "Deadwood". Wow! It really depicted Deadwood as being a raw, crude, wild muddy mess of hell back then. Sort of the way it was when I hung out there in my younger days. It was sort of a college kid hangout during the annual "Days of '76" that took place the first part of August....

The motorized drum carder is finished and it works great...

Spent this morning with a friend in SE Portland who wanted me to see her new Imac, the computer in a monitor. What a machine. What resolution... what sharpness... a really great piece of engineering... and all in the confines of a flat panel display. So she gave me a demonstration of it. I am...

I'm sure you'll have fun with SGMC. I certainly look forward to hearing your perspective. I've only been riding since the 1980's, and that makes me one of the "elders" of the group, so I know we need some REAL depth of perspective.

I wish you & your wife the best. Knowing nothing about your situation, I offer the following: Hopefully she will understand that if you come home invigorated, you'll bring MORE energy home, rather than being less energetic at home because your energy was spent on the bike. Perhaps her disabilities would allow her to join you, even if only briefly, via a sidecar (some are made that a wheelchair rolls into). Then she could add the thrill of riding to her list of reasons to wake up and face each day with a smile. My apologies if I trespass, as I know nothing of your situation.

Again, welcome!

Progress Report on motorizing Drum Carder- (I know this is long but it took me all day to do it... and maybe I'm just a little bit proud that it's finished... almost):

I went to Grainger's in Tigard Wednesday morning and bought two pulleys, one 8" and one 7". They only had one 8" pulley or I would have bought two, so instead had to...

Still trying to shake this sore throat. Seems to shift from one side one day to the other side the next day. Yesterday it was the left side, today it's the right side. Seems like I'm never getting over it. Now viewing DVD # 3 and 4 of "Deadwood", the HBO series first season. That would be episodes 5 through 8. It's a bit "ho...

Just finished a great book, "The Long Walk" by Slavomir Rawicz, a true story of a trek to freedom, from a 1940's Siberian prison camp all the way through Mongolia and the Gobi desert, through Tibet, across the Himalaya's and finally into India. A book that is hard to put down... a great read.

And last night, I sat down and read "The Motorcycle Diaries"...

My second MC ever, a '72 Honda 350 CB twin, slightly modified. Sometimes I didn't know what I wanted to drive, the 240Z or the Honda, so I took them both. This pic was when I visited friends in Rapid City, South Dakota, way back when.

This morning, had coffee with a friend who is a graduate student at Portland State University. So she loads...

This was actually my third motorcycle ever owned. Bought it used. Some people classified it as a cafe racer but I turned it into more of a touring bike, a 1974 Honda Sport, (4 cylinder), chain drive. It was preceeded by the Honda 350 four that is now somewhat of a collectors item, (which sadly means they probably don't get to go out and run...

My '69

Had a busy Saturday helping the neighbor set up at a local swap meet for car racing equipment in Portland. Was not as good as the big swap meet they have here about the first weekend in April. Instead of 30,000 square feet this last Saturday, it will be 10 times that plus the entire parking lot and it will be 3 days...

sophie:
is your '69 honda what some would call a cafe bike?

i was hunting around for one of those back when i lived in sf and was dating a guy that was very good at restoring cars and bikes. i enrolled in a class at the community college on how to repair motorcycles, just to get ready for owning a bike, and then had to drop out because it was too much work. some day i shall return to that class, with a nice little old bike in tow and work on it to my heart's content.

mmm. i knit. i knit like a maniac! mostly just scarves though. so your wive weaves yarn? does she sell any of it? if so, where might i pick some up?
