My eyes are going to fall out of my head.

I work in a small town in NY... it's called Rhinebeck. I live in Lake Katrine, just on the other side of the Hudson river. Lake Katrine is apart of a conglomerate of villages, hamlets and townships that surround and may as well be swallowed by the city of Kingston.

Now Kingston is a family town where there is an unfortunate equilibrium between decent people and human garbage that is quickly dwindling down in favor of the trash.

It seems that in the last several yeas the economic blow suffered by the loss of IBM has been slowly alleviated by the influx of many other businesses. At this time there are 5 times as many chain stores, eateries and other such industry here than there was 10 years ago.

Since 9-11 the population in the outskirts of Kingston (near where I live) has become more family oriented and is dense with city folk moving north for safety.

You see, it isnt all bad here, it's just the inner city. I am sure this is true all over, but the city is actually lovely and could be better if all of the low lives would just maybe consider being better people and if the crack heads would either clean up or die off.

Most of the industry here loves the college student and the uneducated worker. We have lots of retail, lots of food service and we have a huge fleet tax processing center where they hire thousands of warm bodies to sort mail and what not.

Perhaps after having fallen in love with a beautiful MA town I have come to hate the rather sick provincial lives led here that are all far to content with mediocrity. Doesnt anyone want to be better? How did so many big air talkers that never do anything but work their Wal-Mart jobs exist.

It's one thing if people are happy and proud of the lives they lead. I would support a whole city of retail workers if they were happy to do it, proud of it and leading a good life. But it seems that people here will lie, cheat and steal every chance they get,.... so many are on these anti-depressants, and no one wants to admit what they do or do something to make it better?

It's like a giant bowl of crabs, no one ever gets out. They pull one another further into the bowl.

This isnt me. surreal

The really sad thing is... that is probably a microcosm of what is happening all over America. Pretty soon, if not already, there will be nowhere to escape that lifestyle. It's a little like that here too. Resist. biggrin

Hello.

I can understand where you are coming from (the above rant). I've been all over and find that most large communities live by the cattle and sheep theory. You find pockets of miniature communities (small college towns for example) that are more pleasant to live in. I live in a large city, Columbus Ohio, and have learned to just deal with the environment.
