What am I watching while editing today???? The new Conjuring movie came out, theaters and HBOMax. I fucking LOVE this stuff!

I’ve been HOOKED to scary movies since I was hard lined in with the Blair Witch Project. I hadn’t recognized it then, but it felt so familiar to me… that fear. That horrific itch that couldn’t be scratched.

A few years later I happened upon Constantine. It also fit the puzzle in a strange way.

I wasn’t a normal kid growing up. I was a strange lie detector test of all things spiritual and religious. I quickly cut the fat and recognized bullshit. I studied religions and beliefs and collected feelings and truths in a strange encyclopedic way.

When I watched the Possession of Emily Rose a light switched on and I just… knew.

I began heavily researching demonology and studying the belief in demons and gods… understanding what Christianity sees and what the rest of the world believes.

I asked as many questions as I could think of. I searched far and wide for people with strong opinions. And I used the guiding light of my own senses to feel my way through my experiences and try to explain that which I had been experiencing since a was a little kid.

Paranormal Activity changed the world! Cinematically and acceptance-wise. It brought something so many of us had experienced but couldn’t explain to the masses.

I began as one who didn’t believe in God or Christianity… my experiences brought me to the church. I stand here today as a failed pastor. I didn’t go into it to marry and bury people. I went into it to protect those who needed protection… myself included.

If you ask enough questions and go poking into enough holes… eventually you find what you are looking for. What I found changed my life. Truth is stranger than fiction.

And while these movies make me scared as fuck! Because I know what I’ve come up against myself… I’d be silly to think ignoring those feelings is a smart approach. In a way, having these feelings from a silly (not so silly) movie is a great vaccination for what it REALLY feels like. Truthfully, the fright you experience with these movies is but a small fraction of the true feeling. There is NOTHING quite like being unable to escape something you cannot see or physically fight off.
