What Inspired Me To Be A Photographer

I wish I had a cool story about my origins as a photographer. Something about the beauty of a photograph that inspired me as a child, or a wondrous renaissance painting… but no. I actually happened into it by accident. Kind of.

I took photography in high school. I wasn’t good. You might even say I sucked. Though I didn’t spend much time photographing people. Honestly, I was too afraid to ask. I shot mostly barns, trees, and clouds. After high school, I didn’t pick up another camera until I was stationed in Germany. I bought a cheap point and shoot at the PX and shot a bit of the German wilderness.

I photographed my first nude that deployment. One of the women in my unit. She had gotten drunk and was flashing us. Hers was the first pussy and breasts I had ever seen in person. I was truly amazed.

But the funny thing, to me, was that I didn’t have the urge to masturbate to it; it didn’t turn me on in that way. It was thrilling to photograph but because it scratched a fun itch for me in the way nothing else ever had. The mixture of seeing something so private, knowing how aroused she was. Seeing how empowered she was as she was being photographed. It kicked on the ignition I never knew I had.

After that, I didn’t pick up a camera until my first son was born. Interestingly enough, around his first birthday I was hired by a Sex Worker to do a nude portrait session. It was my first paid session and it was what gave me fire! I knew that day, that THAT was what I was meant to do.

Since then, I’ve used every ounce of energy I have to find women to empower. To hone my craft, and to create a desirable product. As I found Suicide Girls I found a cause I could truly get behind. Helping women celebrate their unique beauty in a sexually artistic way. I found more women who wanted the experience but couldn’t bare the idea of putting those images out onto the internet for anyone to see.

In making that discovery I found a new beacon of light. ElegantOrchid was born. Something of elegance, with the unique beauty of an orchid.

This last year a lot has changed in my life. I went from being a happily married man, father, and head of household to a newly divorced single father trying to start over. I’m not sure what will come next for ElegantOrchid or me as a photographer, but I know it’s going to be kick ass!
