as you can see the major powers: united states, ussr, and china.
all 3 of these nations could wipe out any nation in the world many
times over within 20 to 30 minutes. hey--its faster than you can
get your pizza!

i wont go into the details of how many millions would die from one
nuclear strike. nor will i talk about the radiation and other sickness
associated from the aftermath.

Here's what I worry about ... our homegrown brand of loonies (the nut-job faction of dispensationalist Christian fundamentalists; those with a yen for Muslim blood, and waiting eagerly for the rapture) may gain enough power in the U.S. government that when their mirror image (the nut-job faction of Muslim fundamentalists) start lobbing a couple of black market nukes the situation will go out of control in short order, and we'll destroy the planet.

That will suck big time in the short term (perhaps a tad flippant, but considering the suicide of one's race is terribly depressing), but, who knows?, a couple of hundred thousand years from then whatever beings manage to stay alive and procreate will finally get this whole 'civilization' thing right.
